Rhythm Factory

(16-18 Whitechapel Road, Whitechapel)
Rhythm Factory in Whitechapel lives up to its name, with three main club rooms that host a different theme and genre of live music each night. The live gigs are hosted in an intimate setting, whilst the remaining club rooms feature a boutique bar and DJ booth which boasts an eclectic mix of genres. Best of all, it’s just a short walk down Mile End Road from Scape East student accommodation. Perfect for a night out close to home!

93 Feet East

(150 Brick Lane, Bethnal Green)
Nestled in London’s famous Brick Lane (about 30 mins walk away) is 93 Feet East – a night club with an emphasis on good music and good times. At 93 Feet East you can enjoy live new artists and popular bands in a fun and lively atmosphere. The club also has a happy hour on weekdays from 5pm until 8pm and it hosts all day events every Sunday like BBQ in the courtyard.


(83 Rivington Street, Shoreditch)
Slightly further afield, but well worth a visit, Cargo. Props go to this Shoreditch nightclub for creative design which makes use of a disused railway yard for its main club area. In addition to the vast club floor, Cargo features a lounge setting with live music and different DJs every night of the week. With its high ceilings and vibrant atmosphere, Cargo always promises a night to remember.

Passing Clouds

(1 Richmond Road, Dalston)
This trancelike Dalston club is hard to find but well worth the search. The atmosphere resembles an exotic shabby chic with the set list featuring a blend of African, Latin and Caribbean influences. A rich and unique blend of musical culture in a quirky yet chilled out environment makes this perfect for a low-key night out. It’s best reached by hopping onto the overground from Whitechapel two stops up to Haggerston.

East Village

(89 Great Eastern Street, Shoreditch)
East Village brings the Big Apple to London, oozing New York chic and big city vibe. The club takes its name from the underground suburb of Manhattan and has a warm and alluring setting with some of the best DJs from around the city and further afield. It’s well known for its stylish and decadent scenery, making it perfect for a semi-sophisticated night out! To reach it, hop on the 205 bus on Mile End Road, just outside Scape East and catch it all the way to Old Street in Shoreditch.

The Nest

(36 Stoke Newington Road, Dalston)
Last but but not least is another of Dalston’s hidden gems, The Nest – an intimate and cosy venue that regularly mixes established artists with local and international rising talent, all in a beautiful lounge setting. The Nest hosts live music from a broad range of genres, and is, quite simply, the dictionary definition of a feel-good night. Try catching the 277 bus from Mile End station, or go with a group of friends and split the cost of a taxi between you.
